Pensions in the news
State Pension increase
From April 2026, the State Pension increased by 4.8% for the 2026/27 tax year in line with wage growth. This is part of the ‘triple lock’ system, which ensures that the State Pension rises each year by the highest of 2.5%, inflation, or wage growth.
As a result:
- The full, new flat-rate State Pension (for those who reached State Pension age (SPA) after April 2016) will be £241.30 a week, increasing by £574.60 a year.
- The full, old basic State Pension (for those who reached SPA before April 2016) will be £184.90 a week, increasing by £439.40 a year.
